Qigong

Qigong (Chi Kung) and a similar form known as Nei Gong have been used in the Chinese healing arts for several thousands of years, primarily for maintaining health and increasing life span and have been used for developing internal and external power in Chinese martial arts such as Tai Chi for the last 1500 years. Qi means energy which circulates in the body and Gong means work (energy work), Qigong practice primary is to promote and improve the energy flow in the body and for control and cultivation of that internal energy.

Since the 1950’s  Qigong has been more open to the public, though originally it was kept within a family or to select students, even Taoist and Buddhist had forms of Qigong for health and spiritual enlightenment, which were only available to those who resided in temples. As Qigong became public knowledge there was some skepticism if Qigong really worked as some did not understand internal energy cultivation or some doubted the existence of Qi, also some Qigong students were taught incorrectly and there was even some superstitions by some Chinese that it was some form of magic.
Qigong is scientific and is based on Chinese medical knowledge and theory, relating Qi with Nature and teaches us how we can harmonize our energy with our environment for a healthy and peaceful life.

Originally most important books on Qi would explain the concept regarding Qi and Nature and also there were books regarding the Meridians which are major channels that connect the vital organs with the rest of the body; the smaller channels known as Luo extend and branch out from the Meridians themselves and are connecting channels. There are 12 physical meridians connecting to the vital organs which we work on in our Chi Kung Healing course and 2 major vessels (psychic meridians) known as Mai which are part of our inner alchemy training. In acupuncture we find cavities known as Xue along the meridians and these points or cavities are what an acupuncturist would stimulate to bring energetic balance back into the body. Qigong acts in the same way as acupuncture and helps to stimulate the flow of blood and increase Qi (energy) through a sequence of exercises, meditations and massage.

In Qigong we have the elements of Ying & Yang, which represents duality, female and male, night and day, hot and cold, soft and hard for example and the Ying and Yang foundation and theory is about the harmonization and balance of these two polarities of duality as a human being. In Ying and Yang theory we also have the 5 element concept, metal wood, air, fire and earth and how they interact with each other and nature, also on how their interaction may affect us.

Most Qigong theory and practice was developed via introspection of nature and the inter changes that happened known as Nei Shi Gong Fu, also we have Wai Shiang which is the actual physical examination of the human body which mainly predominates in western medical science and which discredits the internal understanding of Chinese medical theory Nei Shi Gong Fu. In Nei Shi Gong we also have the observation and relationship of Qi to food, emotions and sounds and how they affect our way of living and our health. These observations were discovered and understood over a long period of time and once understood how Qi related to their lives and health they created methods to improve and increase the Qi flow in their body, Nei Shi Gong Fu was the origins of how Qigong was developed.
